- Choose any time commitment – you can pick from a weekly (or more frequent) shift, short-term projects, or occasional “done-in-a-day” opportunities
- Choose your location – serve at our Pelham facility (in Oak Mountain State Park), out in the community at large, or even in the comfort of your own home
Another way to explore volunteering at AWC is to attend a volunteer orientation, held monthly from 2-4PM (usually the first Sunday of each month except December). Please note that the minimum volunteer age is 18 (16 if accompanied by parent).
VOLUNTEER POSITIONS AVAILABLE:
ANIMAL CARE: Help provide care for injured and orphaned wild birds.
WILDLIFE HELP LINE: Work from home responding to messages from callers needing advice and information on a variety of wildlife problems and concerns.
STATEWIDE TRANSPORT: Relay injured and orphaned raptors to and from AWC. Transport volunteers are on-call as needed (and as available).
AWC TOUR GUIDES & EDUCATION PROGRAM SPEAKERS: Guide visitors on formal education tours of AWC to help them learn about our wild patients and unique rehabilitation methods; make education presentations to schools and civic groups.
GREETER: Welcome visitors and answer questions; assist visitors with the patient admissions process when they deliver animals for care; restock flyers & educational materials; etc.
GARDEN/GROUNDSKEEPING TEAM: Keep our gardens and lawn looking neat, trim, colorful, and attractive.
BUILDING MAINTENANCE TEAM: Keep our facility in tip-top shape by routinely checking and fixing necessary things like washers in faucets, light bulbs, etc.
OFFICE SUPPORT TEAM: Assist with a variety of administrative duties including preparing mailings, filing, data entry and other duties that help us operate smoothly.
SPECIAL EVENT TEAM: We contact you each time we're planning an event, and if you're available you'll simply sign up for the position and shift you want. If you have more time to offer you can also assist with the advance preparation for events.
MISCELLANEOUS SKILLS: Accounting, baking, photography, marketing, graphic design, videography, carpentry, public relations, electrician, sewing, artists, and more.
